Qualifications and Counselling Approach

I am a qualified counsellor with a first degree in Health & Community Studies from the University of Liverpool. My counselling qualifications include a Postgraduate Diploma in 'Counselling in Primary Health Care Settings' and a Master of Science in Counselling, both from the University Of Bristol.

CPT( CIPD Trained) and possess a diploma in CBT.

My integrative approach to counselling, embodied within a person-centred counselling relationship, uses different models to suit the needs of individual clients and their issues.

My belief is that clients have the capacity in themselves for growth and the 'tools' or resources to effect change in their lives. Often change can be blocked by various situations in peoples lives which do not allow them to reach their full potential. I view counselling as a way of exploring these processes in order to allow the individual to discover meaning and the way forward in their life.

Counselling can be a challenging and a painful process and it is important to feel safe and not judged in the counselling sessions. Therefore it is important clients work at their own pace to reach the changes they want to make for the future.

Experience

My experience has included working in a Health Centre with a number of GP's, and various health presentations. I have worked for an agency handling referrals from NHS clients and GP practices in Bristol. I have worked in private practice for a number of years and have a varied client base, my referrals coming from various medical insurance companies and other sources, including commercial businesses.

I also work for three jobcentres in the Bristol and Bath area. I counsel mostly on work- and health- related issues with clients using the jobcentre. As well as being a counsellor, I am a trained life coach and I use both skills depending on what the client needs or wants in my work with the jobcentres.

My counselling experience includes working with clients from various cultural and religious backgrounds.

As a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) I adhere to its Ethical Framework for Good Practice and am subject to its Complaints Procedure. I have regular supervision and follow a continuing personal development programme.
